Fuel Crisis, Two Wheels

Big picture, expensive fuel is changing how Filipinos get around. Motorcycle sales jumped 8% to 643,776 units from January to April as more people looked for cheaper ways to travel, according to industry data. Rising oil prices pushed many commuters and workers toward two-wheelers, especially scooters and small motorcycles.

By the numbers, sales momentum slowed in April, falling 17% from March as inflation hit 7.2%, squeezing household budgets and making financing more expensive. Economists say weaker purchasing power is starting to affect purchases.

Why it matters, motorcycles are no longer just weekend hobbies or delivery tools. For many Filipinos, they are becoming a survival strategy - cheaper fuel, easier parking, and lower daily transport costs in an increasingly expensive economy.
