Good morning!
We’re building PesoWeekly to become more than a newsletter. In the coming months, we’ll launch a new website where readers can go beyond the quick headlines and read deeper stories with more context.
The idea is simple: you can finish the newsletter in around five minutes, then choose which topics you want to explore further on the website. There, you’ll find in-depth explainers, business stories, founder interviews, financial literacy content, practical guides, science discoveries, and important parts of Philippine history that are often left out of school lessons.
We’ll also highlight Filipino excellence in sports, science, business, technology, healthcare, fashion, the arts, and other fields where Filipinos are making an impact at home and around the world.
Our goal is to give readers both speed and depth: a fast way to stay updated, and a trusted place to understand the stories, ideas, and opportunities that can help Filipinos make better decisions for the future.
Stay Sharp.

Only 3 in 10 Middle-Class Filipinos Feel Good About Their Finances

A quick thought: When I was in high school, I thought being middle class meant you were already financially comfortable. You had a decent home, food on the table, and maybe a few extras. From the outside, it looked like money was no longer a serious problem.
As you grow older, you realize how misleading that picture can be. A family may earn enough to look stable, but one hospital bill, job loss, or major expense can quickly change everything. A new FWD Philippines study puts numbers behind that reality.
The reality: Only 32% of middle-class Filipinos say they feel financially confident. The other 68% continue to deal with persistent money anxiety.
What’s stressing them out: Rising living costs are the biggest concern, cited by 74% of respondents. Medical expenses worry 52%, while 34% fear they may not have enough money for retirement.
It depends on your age: Gen X is thinking about healthcare and retirement. Millennials are often supporting both parents and children. Gen Z is dealing with higher costs, unstable work, and burnout.
Bottom line: Being middle class does not always mean feeling financially secure. Many Filipinos are earning, paying bills, and keeping things together, but real confidence comes from having enough savings, protection, and preparation to handle what life throws at you. Read full report here.
